Health Care Dollars at Corporate Levels Continue to Rise Due to Lifestyle Behaviors- Corporations Need Corporate Wellness
A recent article was published last week in several newspapers across the country discussing the need for more corporate wellness programs. It's estimated that 50-75% of all dollars spent on health plan costs are due to lifestyle or behaviorally driven conditions, such as obesity, hypertension, stress and smoking. The ROI on wellness programs administered by experts in the field, such as LSE, is now estimated at $5.81 for every dollar spent.
The biggest thing that employers can do to reduce health care costs is to begin a wellness program. Such a program that focuses on high quality administering of lifestyle related behavior changes is the most effective. One of the best ways to do this is to have an on-site fitness center with expertly trained staff to not only set employees up on programs, but provide the necessary motivation, follow up and accountability to increase exercise adherence. Exercise is the one thing that we all can do that works toward achieving all the goals: weight loss, blood pressure and cholesterol reduction, prevention of diabetes, reduction in back and joint pain, increase in strength, flexibilty and cardiovascular fitness. It is also a natural mood enhancer and stress reliever. An on-site employee gym without staff is like having a treadmill in your house. It eventually just takes up space and becomes covered with dust!
